Christina Deharo
San Jose, California

Christina De Haro is the Bay Area Chapter Chair. She is from San Jose, California working towards her degree in Labor Studies at San Jose Community College. She is engaged to her fiancé Omar Perkins and has a beautiful combined family of four boys and two girls. From being an independent woman she has committed herself not only to this chapter here in California but she also has committed to being a full time mother, wife, student, and holds a full time job. She spends most of her time at work, home, and church being also involved within the women’s ministry. She has been involved in recruiting new members, and collaborating with SIEU to establish a disability caucus. She has displayed her leadership qualities by her presentations in front of Cal Work’s classes.  Three things that she is proud of are starting the chapter in the Bay Area with great women to work with, also to make a political change, and lastly to be a part of an organization that fights for equality. What makes her unique is that her lifestyle upbringing was different, but she did not allow it to hold her back.

Anna Davis
Denver, Colorado

Anna lives in Littleton, Colorado. She has six kids, four of whom still live with her and her significant other, Dennis. She spends most of her time at home with her kids and working on community issues. In 2001 she became a member of 9to5 when she and others were at risk of losing child care funding as a students. From there she was asked to be on the Colorado Chapter Board. Last year was nominated to be the chapter Representative on the National Board. The three things she is most proud of are graduating with her masters degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Domestic Violence, raising 6 children(5 boys and 1 girl), and feeling like she makes a difference by being active in her community. She considers the fact that she obtained a Masters degree while raising six children to be what makes her unique. Anna is very proud of her involvement with 9to5 and is honored to be a member.

Amy Howering

Amy Howering was born in San Francisco, CA to “hippy” parents! She learned how to talk in South Carolina, grew up in Woodland, CA, lived in Hawaii for almost three years, and now resides in Arbuckle, CA. She has three children: Catalina Rose, six months old, Justice, (he is “global” in case you are wondering) nine years old, and Joseph, who is 14 years old. She balances school, work, time with her sons (who practically attended CSUS with her!), and time with her fiancé and their infant daughter. She has completed all of her graduate course work in gender equity at CSUS. Amy got involved with 9to5 when she found voter registration cards at an event in Sacramento, CA. Amy has been a suicide prevention crisis line worker, and also a sexual assault responder. Three things that Amy is proud of are her three children! Amy says, “The boys have held me strong while working very hard against the odds, and my baby girl is truly and sincerely a bundle of “pink” joy! What makes Amy unique is that she has experienced life from both sides of the fence, and is very proud to represent 9to5 and all that it has to offer.

Sherry Johnson

Avis Williams
Los Angeles, CA

Avis Williams is a native of Los Angeles and has lived in Southern California for more than 50 years.

She retired from Pacific Bell Communications after 30 years of service where she was an active Union Steward and loyal member of her communications union. She became a member of the Green Party in 2008, seeking training for a green job in Solar Energy – and that’s how she learned about 9to5, our paid sick days campaign and our advocacy for family-flexible workplace policy. Avis attended her first 9to5 Annual Leadership Conference in April  2010 and enjoys sharing information about 9to5’s issues and campaigns with her community. Avis thought after retirement, part time jobs would be available, that didn't happen. So, she returned to school, became a licensed cosmetologist and now runs her own business. Avis is unique because she doesn't give up!

9to5's National Board of Directors is made up of women who are directly affected by the issues we work on. Board members are elected by their local chapters or through the Activist Network.
