Albany, GA is in the middle of a utilities crisis. Many residents have to pay electricity bills that are higher than their monthly rent. Albany goes by the slogan “Good Life City,” but in a city where a third of the population lives in poverty, light bills are one of the consistent taxes that keep people trapped in a cycle of poverty they can’t break out of, and keeps them from living a good life.
9to5 has released a report, People Over Profit: The Campaign for Utilities Justice in Albany, highlighting the causes of, burdens of, and solutions for high utilities costs. We are asking that you all lend your voices to the cause by writing to the Albany City Commissioners about this important issue!
