ATLANTA — On Wednesday, November 11, 2020, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, announced that the state will recount presidential election results in each county by hand. The Secretary of State’s office has been under growing pressure from fellow Georgia Republicans over alleged misconduct in the administration of the November election. Mica Whitfield, the 9to5 Georgia State Director, issued the following statement:
“The people have spoken and have overwhelmingly come together to elect new leadership. The recount being forced by partisan interests will not change this outcome. Georgians have spoken and have made history, and we are confident that our voices will be respected by our elected officials.
Unsubstantiated accusations put unnecessary stress on our state’s election officials and staff, especially as preparations for the two Senate runoff elections on January 5 are underway.
Our communities are resilient and strong. We encourage our members and community to remain steadfast and join our efforts to register voters. We encourage everyone to head back to the polls in January to make our voices heard in the runoff elections.”
