Feb. 17, 2015 — Macon-Bibb passed a resolution 6-3 for the city/county government to draft and pass a ban the box ordinance.
9to5 member and intern Latonya Barnes attended the meeting and was able to be a part of achieving this great victory. Here’s what she had to say:
“Attending the rally and Commission vote was the first time that my husband, son and I have worked together for something that could benefit us as a family. We were excited to be a part of history, supporting a policy to give people a second chance at providing for their families. Because of Ban the Box, I will no longer need to hide my past in order to get a job interview. This policy gives me and a lot of other people the courage to apply for jobs we thought we couldn’t get because of our background. Thanks to all who support Ban the Box and believe that everyone deserves a second chance.”
