A Note from Our Executive State Director

As I look back on the past year, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude—for the work we’ve done, for the people who’ve made it possible, and for the collective power we continue to build across Wisconsin. 2024 was a year of both challenge and progress, and through it all, our members, staff, donors, coalition partners, and community stood shoulder to shoulder in the fight for a more just and caring world.

As a first-generation Hmong American woman, organizing in this political climate is deeply personal. Every day, I carry the stories of my elders who came to this country seeking safety, and the dreams of those still waiting for justice. I know what’s at stake for our communities when our democracy is attacked, when care work is undervalued, and when working families are pushed to the margins. I also know the power we hold when we organize, vote, and raise our voices together.

At 9to5 Wisconsin, we made bold strides in 2024—advancing campaigns for paid family and medical leave, equitable child care, and voter engagement. We trained new grassroots leaders, held the line at the Capitol, and showed up in the streets and at the ballot box. Through it all, we stayed grounded in our mission: to build power with women and nonbinary people of color and ensure that our lived experiences shape the policies that govern our lives.

To our members, donors, coalition allies, and community leaders—thank you. Thank you for trusting us, for investing in this movement, and for believing that a different future is possible. Your courage, your resources, and your stories continue to be the heartbeat of this work.

As we look ahead to 2025, we do so with urgency, hope, and determination. Our communities deserve better—and we’re not waiting for permission to demand it. Together, we are building a Wisconsin where care, dignity, and justice are not the exception but the expectation.

In solidarity and with deep appreciation,
Christina Thor
