The lack of paid sick days is an important public health issue that needs to be addressed by policymakers.
2013 is already shaping up to be one of the worst flu seasons in years. Without paid sick days, too many low-wage workers will be forced to come to work sick, spreading the flu to clients, customers, and co-workers.
While stagnant wages and sluggish job growth continue to cloud the post-recession recovery, a bright spot exists in Colorado: 66,000 of the state’s lowest-paid workers got a raise.
