Wisconsin releases new poverty report

Low-income refundable tax credits have lifted 110,000 Wisconsinites out of poverty each year, on average, from 2011 to 2013, and another 130,000 were lifted out of poverty each year, on average, from 2009 to 2011 due to SNAP.

Businesses support Family Leave Insurance in Wisconsin

Like most people, I have never traveled to the state Capitol to testify at a legislative hearing. But I have been a supporter of paid family leave since I found out that it didn’t exist when I was pregnant with my first son. So I support WI Family Leave Insurance (WIFI) personally, and through the Keeping Families First coalition as the representative of Mid-Day Women’s Alliance, a business women’s organization in Appleton, WI. When I heard about the Senate hearing, I blocked off my day so that I could be there to testify in support of the bill.

Too many Wisconsinites live in poverty.

Data released in September by the Census Bureau show poverty remains stubbornly and unacceptably high, and too many Americans are struggling to pay their rent and feed their families. Wisconsin 9 to 5 recently released a report focused on poverty in Wisconsin, in partnership with the Coalition on Human Needs.
