On January 14th, 9to5 members joined the 2015 Women’s Policy Summit, Advancing Women’s Health, Wealth and Power. We all enjoyed this conference and found it very informative. In addition to attending workshops on 9to5’s core issues, like women’s economic empowerment, and women and families in the workplace, we got to expand our knowledge of issues facing women in California. We learned from partner organizations about efforts to prevent human trafficking and promote access to affordable health care for immigrants. We even learned about toxic products used in hair care and a new green salon project that will soon be located near us in Inglewood!

Current state legislation that 9to5 supports includes:

– AB11, to expand paid sick leave to home care workers,
– SB3, to increase the state minimum wage, and
– SB23, to end the CalWORKs maximum family grant.

We’re also looking forward to supporting bills that will be introduced soon to: reform CalWORKs policy to help students get to school, strengthen California’s equal pay laws, and ensure fair and predictable scheduling practices for workers.

Stay tuned for updates about these bills to win justice for working women in California!
