Working women will continue to fight for equality and reproductive rights in the face of adversity
Statement from 9to5
As we face a second Trump administration, we renew our commitment to advocating for the rights and needs of women and non-binary people of color who are at greatest risk of losing hard-fought gains. Our fight for equality is far from over.
The election results underscore the urgent need for continued advocacy and mobilization to ensure that the voices of working women are heard and respected. Women and nonbinary people of color continue to face enormous barriers such as wage disparities, inadequate healthcare, limited access to childcare, and threats of deportation. These issues demand immediate redress.
We know many are exhausted, and it’s important to allow space for reflection and rest. But as we gather strength, we’ll continue to come together—through grassroots organizing, advocacy, and simply standing by each other. Our communities are counting on us to hold the line and push for real change, and we’re in this together for the long haul.
Undoubtedly, racism and sexism played an outsized role in shaping this election. We must continue electing leaders who listen to us, reflect our values, and fight for the policies that bring us closer to our economic vision. We will train and empower women and nonbinary people of color to lead this fight because we know that from our workplaces and communities to the highest offices in the nation, when women of color lead, we all succeed.
Our work has always extended beyond the ballot box. It’s clear that Americans across the country are struggling to survive. The very issues that divided this election—the cost of everyday essentials, low wages, lack of affordable childcare, and unaffordable housing—are also the issues that unite 9to5 and drive our fight for real change, regardless of who is in the White House. We believe that by organizing our communities around these issues, we can make measurable changes locally and nationally. Each of us has the power to make a positive impact, showing that what may seem impossible becomes achievable when we work together.
We will hold all elected officials — at all levels of government — accountable to support working families. We will continue to fight for policies that promote economic justice, protect reproductive rights, protect immigrants, and ensure equitable opportunities for all working women and their families.
