August is here, and that means it is time for our scholars to be back in school! As we usher in another academic year, students, families and teachers are anticipating the rush that comes with the season. Teachers are geared up to build another generation of growth and learning. Students and families may be struggling to coordinate morning and afternoon schedules, but nothing beats seeing your friends again and catching up about their summer escapades.

We wish all of our members an impactful beginning of the school year, and want nothing more than our future leaders to become academic powerhouses throughout the year and beyond! Remember, if you’re an educator, do not forget that paid parental leave for public sector workers has increased from 3 to 6 weeks now!

Shout Out to Our Child Care Providers Presenting at the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC)

We are so proud of our childcare providers who presented last week at the NAFCC Conference! Four of our member leaders and former CJFP Fellows facilitated an Organizing 101 session by sharing their experiences as providers and their work with our childcare campaign.

Many session participants shared similar frustrations related to providers not being paid on time in states like Kentucky and Missouri. We hope their agitation and newfound energy will inspire them to organize within their provider communities!

Shoutout to Tiniki, Sandra, Felicia, and Tammie for leading by example for our childcare campaign and to our Savannah Staff Erin and Frances for their support!

Know Your Rights Training Recap

On July 15th, the Georgia Coalition for Paid Leave conducted a HB 1010 Paid Leave Know Your Rights training for public sector employees, like educators and state administrative personnel. Tara, one of our CJFP fellows, shared her personal experience as a non-state employee and how she would have benefited from paid leave! Thank you, Tara, for sharing your story with the group. Your advocacy for paid leave does not go unnoticed and we will continue to fight to expand paid leave for all in Georgia so that no worker has to choose between their livelihood and taking care of themselves or loved ones.

Thank you to those who joined us!
