9to5 Colorado is proud to have spearheaded a decade-long movement for mobile homeowners’ rights. Back in 2014, a neighborhood in southwest Denver watched as parks around them were bought out and fractured communities by displacing its residents. Determined to not have the same fate, residents at neighboring parks began organizing together to preserve their communities and their homes with the help of nonprofits. This movement soon spread across the state, laying the groundwork for crucial mobile homeowner policy passed on a state level in 2019 and 2020.

The Opportunity to Purchase law now grants residents the ability to achieve community ownership with 120 days to make an offer. The road was not an easy one for Montevista Comunidad (previously known as Capitol City) who fought for two years to become the first resident owned community in Denver. It wouldn’t have been possible without its community coming together with a clear goal, with the support of nonprofits who helped fundraise enough to land the purchase.
