Hi Friend!

June celebrates Pride Month and we’re honored to work with so many passionate staff and members who are members of LGBTQIA+ community. We can’t hope to achieve economic justice without lifting the voices and needs of the people at the intersections of gender and race who are more likely to experience pay disparities, workplace harassment, housing discrimination, and other issues core to our mission.

LGBTQIA+ people across the country remain vulnerable to being denied service, being displaced from their housing, being denied health care, and other basic freedoms simply because of who they are or who they love. The Equality Act would expand civil rights protections to explicitly and consistently protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination.

Spotlight

Juneteenth signals the end of slavery and as we acknowledge this day we also must think about what it means for Black families to thrive on our terms. Black women have always been on the frontlines of social movements and to achieve our collective liberation our movements needs resourcing. We need robust funding that gives us the flexibility to act to make meaningful change and create a sustainable infrastructure for our future.

9to5 Co-Presidents and CEOs Ashley and Mica were featured in Ms. Magazine this month. They stressed the importance of funding Black lead organizations not as an afterthought or a checkbox on a diversity agenda, but as an integral part of the fight against racism and inequality.
