Our organizing team has been booked with activities this spring in the Denver metro area and beyond. Several staff members have attended national convenings out of state, led ‘know your rights’ trainings for mobile homeowners, and canvassed new communities to engage with folks directly impacted by our issue areas. Read on to learn more about our mobile home organizing work and photos from recent events.

Housing is a Human Right

9to5 Colorado has been a key player in the mobile home organizing space. We have helped pass many policies that offer protections to residents. Organizers frequently canvass at mobile home parks to bring in new members and give presentations informing them about their rights. Luz Galicia, one of 9to5’s lead organizers, hosts Know Your Rights trainings with a housing lawyer every other month. She targets different mobile home parks to provide tools and resources to these communities. After years of organizing, over 70% of 9to5 members are currently mobile home owners, and deserve recognition in housing movement spaces.

In February, 9to5 members and mobile homeowners Miriam deSantiago and Ana Baez accompanied organizers Luz and Kwasi to New Orleans for the Right to the City Member Assembly. Members of the national alliance gathered to strategize and build power for housing justice, and 9to5 came with a specific agenda – to present and explain why mobile home communities should be included in the Homes For All movement. Though mobile homeowners share similar struggles as renters, they experience a unique set of challenges as homeowners – who still pay rent for the land their home resides on. The proposal was accepted – a huge win for the coalition – and members will now participate in RTTC’s committee for mobile homes.

Our organizers are excited to further their powerbuilding this summer with more Know Your Rights trainings, housing actions, and preparing for our Community Justice Fellowship Program in the fall!
