For Cause Eviction Update
|
HB24-1098 was introduced in the legislature on January 24th following a press conference at the Capitol attended by news outlets, Colorado Homes for All (COHFA) and our partners in the Keep Coloradans Housed Coalition. A handful of COHFA members and community leaders spoke at the conference and shared their stories about unjust evictions. We rallied together for the bill introduction and built momentum to keep Coloradans housed. Next, the bill heads to the House committee in the following weeks. Â Write a letter to your representative urging them to vote yes on HB-1098!

A For Cause Eviction law would ensure tenants are only evicted when landlords have concrete grounds (For Cause), such as nonpayment of rent or lease violations. The bill also defines no-fault evictions. A no-fault eviction is an eviction in which a landlord wants to renovate, repair, convert, or demolish a unit or if the landlord wants to move in or have immediate family move into the home. In all cases, landlords will be required to provide clear and sufficient notice to tenants in all evictions.

Mobile Home Water Quality Listening Session
|
On January 27th we held a listening session on the Mobile Home Park Water Quality Act. We fought to pass this legislation in 2023 after our Climate Justice survey revealed water quality to be one of the most pressing issues our members face. Now enacted, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is developing a program to test residents’ water quality and resolve any violations. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to educate folks on this crucial policy that lies at the intersection of our climate and housing justice campaigns. Thank you to all our members and folks who attended! Â
