    9to5's CAMPAIGNS FOR CHANGE

    9to5's Work Family Campaign
9to5 helped lead the fight for family and medical leave on the state and national level. Members and staff testified before Congress and worked with the media to educate the public about the need for family leave. Ellen Bravo, former 9to5 Director and author of The Job/Family Challenge, A 9to5 Guide - Not for Women Only, served on the bipartisan Commission on Leave, appointed by Congress to study the impact of the Family and Medical Leave Act. 9to5 members around the country are active in efforts to expand FMLA to make it more accessible and affordable. Members in California were part of that state's historic victory in establishing the first paid leave bill, which went into effect in 2004. We are also working at the state and federal level on efforts to create a new minimum labor standard requiring employers to offer at least 7 days annual paid sick leave, pro-rated for part-time workers.

    SEXUAL HARASSMENT/ANTI-DISCRIMINATION
9to5 works with women and men to eliminate sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination in the workplace through its training programs and public policy initiatives. In July 1999, we released an expanded, updated edition of The 9to5 Guide to Combating Sexual Harassment. 9to5 members have organized against attacks on affirmative action and in support of expanding civil rights protections to include sexual orientation.

    WELFARE/WORKFARE
9to5 is a leading voice speaking out against punitive approaches to welfare and for the need to reform work so that women can be self-sufficient without jeopardizing their families. In Wisconsin, 9to5's Poverty Network Initiative organizes women with experience of welfare to speak to policy makers and community groups about their lives and the policy changes needed.

    NONSTANDARD WORK
9to5 is working to ensure that nonstandard work (part-time, temporary and contract work) is voluntary and equitable. Currently, nonstandard workers who do the same work as regular full-time workers are paid less, receive fewer benefits and are unprotected by many basic labor laws. 9to5 is working with a national network to end this legal form of discrimination.
