Contagion-Not Just A Movie
- Local Chapter: Colorado
Watch the real stories of Laura in Denver and four other workers among the 44 million people who have been forced to work sick because they couldn’t afford to stay home or weren’t allowed to take time off.
The need for paid sick days is real. 9to5 members in Denver, Colorado are on the frontline to fight for paid sick days in their city.
On November 1, Denver voters will vote on a city ballot initiative that would allow workers to earn one hour of paid sick and safe leave for every 30 hours worked. That's about nine days for full-time workers, pro-rated for part-time workers. Small businesses with fewer than 10 employees will have the flexibility to cap the number of days at five.
Over 100,000 Denver employees – 40 percent of all workers and 72% of food service workers – have no paid sick days at their workplace. They are forced to go to work sick rather than risk losing wages or even their job and that puts everyone's health at risk.
