9to5 Atlanta officially kicked off it's 'Fair Eats' Campaign to raise the tipped worker minimum wage.  The tipped worker min wage has been stuck at $2.13 for 19 years, and there is currently legislation in the state House, HB 290, that would raise it to $3.63.  At the "Show Your Server Some Heart" press conference at Noni's restaurant on Edgewood last Saturday, 2/13, 9to5 Atlanta members spoke out telling their personal stories about struggling to make ends meet on $2.13.

LISTEN To "Miss American Way"

Today, we unveil "Miss American Way:  The Lilly Ledbetter Song."

For years, the national network of 9to5 members and activists have been fully engaged in closing the wage gap; organizing Equal Pay Day events, speaking out on state and federal legislation, serving on Equal Pay boards and commissions. It is with that history -- and the future -- in mind that we observe the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act.

On January 29, 2009, President Barack Obama made the signing of the Ledbetter Act the first of his new Administration. During his 2010 State of the Union address, he reconfirmed the commitment to equal pay for equal work.

To celebrate both these critically important moments in time, songwriter Camille Bright-Smith, a 9to5 member who operates the site BloginSong, has written a Ledbetter musical tribute that you will want to share with your family, friends and colleagues..

Hear Camille Bright-Smith's triumphant, high-energy song, "Miss American Way," at (http://bloginsong.com/). It reminds us that there is no better time than now to speak out legislation like the Paycheck Fairness Act that will move us toward closing the wage gap once and for all.

Camille Bright-Smith Bio:

Camille Bright-Smith is a full time songwriter who founded BloginSong.com in order to push the limits of songwriting, activism and blogging commentary.  After 6 or 7 years of studying Opera and Composition in college she set out for rock stardom in Los Angeles and enjoyed a dozen years of chasing the dream up and down California’s Coast.

She now performs with an 80’s cover band called Mullet Over, gardens a lot, continues with a full schedule of very liberal activism, and of course writes lots of songs.  Commercial success has come in the form of several indie film and television placements of her songs.  She has twin toddlers who consider her an angel from fairy land or the most mean of the blue meanies, depending on the day and the amount of sugar they have taken in.
