FILM Benefit for Haiti:  The acclaimed, 50 minute 2009 documentary "Poto Mitan:  Haitian Women, Pillars of the Global Economy" is a 50-minute film narrated by noted Haitian author Edwidge Danticat and told through the lives of five compelling Haitian women.  Poto Mitan means "pillars of the community"; it gives an inside perspective on globalization, Haiti's current crisis, and the resilient women challenging this system.   Discussion following the film.

The screening is the first in a monthly film series sponsored by 9to5 Los Angeles, and is open to the public for a suggested $5.00 donation.  All proceeds after expenses will benefit Haitian women's organizations.  Light refreshments will be served.  Come hear about Haiti, and learn about 9to5's work in the struggle for rights, raises, and respect for working women in Los Angeles.

"Everyone else has sppoken for Haitian women, yet, we have a history of speaking for ourselves.  I support Poto Mitan because it offers us a rare glimpse into how Haitian women in the struggle understand their complex conditions and what they are doing for themselves" writes Gian Ulysse, Haitian-american scholar, activist and performer.
