9to5 Joins Workers to Call on Big Oil to Do Their Part To Rebuild California's Economy

On July 15, 2010 hundreds of workers rallied in LA to take a stand against Big Oil companies that use our dysfunctional budget process to their advantage and get away with paying zero taxes on the petroleum they extract from our state.

“9to5 stands with Garment Workers”

9to5’s Film Series Scores a Hit with Documentary “MADE IN L.A.”

From 2001-2004, Los Angeles garment workers waged a determined campaign to win fair pay and better working conditions.  Leaders formed a Garment Worker Center downtown and began a campaign to pressure local garment manufacturers to stop exploiting workers and to pay fair wages, overtime, breaks, and benefits.

With the table grape harvest just around the corner, farm workers at Giumarra urgently need a major public display of support. Consumers in this country are the ultimate power when it comes to requiring higher standards from companies--as we can always vote with our dollars. As a result of consumers raising their voice, grocery store shelves and coolers are now stocked more and more with sustainably, organically, and humanely produced and fairly traded items. We need you to raise your voice to help get the message to the mega-company Giumarra and their Nature’s Partner label. Giumarra markets their products as Nature’s Partner, but in reality they are anything but.

Calling all 9to5 Members, Our Summer Camping Retreat is finally here!
Come out and join us at Cerro Alto Campground were we will host two meetings that will explore our success, our campaigns, and our future goals. 
 
We have reserved adjacent sites #10 and #11 at the federal campground called CERRO ALTO, starting Friday afternoon, July 30th, until Sunday afternoon, August 1st.

Bringing encouragement and support to California farmworkers, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis came to Los Angeles to announce a $38 million dollar employment and training grant for the state's farmworkers.

Wage Theft Hurts African Americans

WAGE THEFT continues to make the news.  In Los Angeles, the newspaper Our Weekly has published an article highlighting the failure of emploment and labor law for low-wage workers, in particular African Americans in Los Angeles.  A recent survey published by UCLA found that low-wage workers in Los Angeles regularly experience violations of basic laws for minimum wage, overtime pay, payroll documentation, tips, and protections against retaliation.
