9to5 Atlanta

9to5’s Atlanta chapter was founded in 1983. Our mission is to improve the workplace for women and strengthen the ability of low-wage women in Georgia to win economic justice.

9to5 Atlanta also helps lead coalition efforts to win state legislative reform including: 1) the Parent Protection Act, which would to require all employers in Georgia to provide 24 hrs/year leave for parents to attend school-related activities of their children; or routine medical appointments for themselves or a family member; and 2) to raise the GA minimum wage, index it to keep up with inflation and cover groups of workers who are left out of the federal minimum wage law.

Atlanta Chapter Blog: In the News, part two

I don't have a computer or internet access at home, so every morning I get to work about a half hour early so I can have time to check my email & read up on the news before I start the day. Normally I watch "Meet the Press" or buy a $1 copy of the AJC on Sunday mornings & catch up on the weekend's news that way, but since yesterday was Easter, I was really out of touch with what's been going on by the time I got to work this morning.

Unfortunately, when I graduate I will have a substantial school loan to pay back and the sad part is that two-thirds of my loan went towards daycare for my son. It cost more for him to go to daycare than for me to get a Master’s degree at a state university. Go figure.....

Atlanta Chapter - Organizing 101 Workshop

Community Organizers have always been the catalyst to spark change around fundamental issues, i.e. labor movement, civil rights, human rights.

President Obama, from his experiences as an organizer insists that change starts from the ground up.  But what exactly does community organizing entail?  Ever wondered how to organize and mobilize people around the issues that matter to you?
