Q: I am six months pregnant and wanted to know if I will get any maternity leave when I have the baby?
The answer depends on several factors, including the size of your employer, how long you have worked there, and whether you work full or part time. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides up to 12 weeks unpaid leave, during any 12 month period for birth or adoption of a child. In order for you to qualify for FMLA you must have:
- Been employed by your current employer for a year or more,
- Worked at least 1,250 hours (or about 24 hours a week) during the preceding year
- Worked for a company with at least 50 employees
