This week, Maria Shriver is launching The Shriver ReportA Woman’s Nation Pushes Back from the Brink, in partnership with the Center for American Progress. The report looks at changes in the American family and the failure of government, business, and other cultural institutions to adapt to these changes. The report addresses some of the good jobs, workplace flexibility, equal opportunity and economic security issues that 9to5 organizes around.

Today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce and two-thirds of the primary or co-breadwinners in American families. But the reality is that one in three American women is living at the brink of or in poverty.

The Shriver Report looks at this developing crisis and explores solutionsa combination of public, private, and personal approaches—meant to help reignite the American Dream for women and their families.

The report brings together experts, thinkers, academics, practitioners, and cultural leaders, who lay out how we got where we are today and suggest new ways forward.

A free download of the report is available through January 15th at shriverreport.org.

About 9to5: With forty years’ experience in winning justice for working women, 9to5 leads the way to create a powerful force for change on issues affecting low-wage women and their families. 9to5 organizes women to lead campaigns for family-supporting jobs with decent wages and paid sick days; stronger protections against workplace discrimination; and a strong safety net for low-income families. As one of the largest, most respected national membership organizations of working women in the U.S., we’ve won real changes since the hit song and movie based on 9to5 hit the charts.
