Announcing a new Executive Director at 9to5!

On behalf of the 9to5, National Association of Working Women National Board and Management Team, we are excited to announce Helen Kim Ho as 9to5’s new Executive Director, beginning June 1, when current Executive Director Linda Meric retires.

Helen is a civil rights attorney, and the founder and former Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta, the first Asian civil rights legal organization in the Southeast. Helen founded Advancing Justice – Atlanta in 2010 after successfully organizing Asian immigrant and refugee-led groups to speak out and take collective action against a proposed English-only driver license bill.

During her tenure, Helen formulated and led the organization’s public policy, legal education, community organizing, and leadership development work to further its goal of increasing the civic participation of Asian Americans in the South. She built Advancing Justice – Atlanta into one of the largest and most prominent immigrant civic engagement groups in the region, and took the group national through Asian Americans Advancing Justice, an affiliation of five of the oldest and largest AAPI civil rights groups in the U.S.

Previous to Advancing Justice – Atlanta, Helen worked as an attorney for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) among other nonprofits, and worked for six years as an attorney at large international law firms before moving into the public interest sector 12 years ago.

9to5 will benefit greatly from the vision, strong organizational leadership, coalition-building, equity and inclusion, leadership training and development skills that Helen brings to the organization.

Helen will lead 9to5’s commitment to igniting strength, hope and resistance as we continue to bring our communities together to organize for the real changes we need to achieve justice and equality for working women – and for our broader communities.

We look forward to continuing our partnership and work with you under Helen’s leadership, and she will be reaching out to as many of you as possible over the upcoming months.

As always, thank you so much for your continued support of 9to5’s work,

Gloria Smith, National Board Co-Chair
Cathy Deppe, National Board Co-Chair
Linda Garcia Barnard, Operations Director
Cindia Cameron, Organizing Director
Nasreen Jilani, Development Director
