Action Alert: Call Now to Shut Down this Shutdown

You’ve heard the reports.

* Head Start programs continue to close, leaving parents stranded without childcare. [1]
* North Carolina ran out of funds for their Women, Infants and Children (WIC) food  program. [2]
* We are only one week away from the federal government defaulting on its debts, which many economists report could send us right back into recession. [3]

Your voice is urgently needed.

Call your Representative in the U.S. House today: 1-888-659-9562

When you call this toll-free number, you’ll be prompted to enter your zip code, and then automatically connected with your Representative’s office. Thanks go to AFSCME for making this number available!

Suggested message: “As your constituent, I urge you to act NOW to end the government shutdown and prevent the economic catastrophe of a government default, without conditions.  Please vote to restore funding for all of the services that families count on and to protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamps.

Everyone in the House of Representatives needs this message! Representatives who support ending the shut down with no strings attached need to know their constituents are behind them. Representatives who are contributing to the continuation of the shutdown need to be held accountable.

Tell your Rep it’s time to end the shutdown: 1-888-659-9562

Have you made the call yet? Let us know–email lindsey@9to5.org. Then urge your friends and family to do the same. Together, we can end this shutdown and preserve the vital safety net services so many Americans need.

In Solidarity,
Linda Meric, National Executive Director
