The Family Care Act, HB13-1222, expands the Family and Medical Leave Act to allow employees in Colorado to use their FMLA leave to care for additional family members. This important bill will be voted on by the House of Representatives soon, and we need your help! The Family and Medical Leave Act has been used more than 100 million times over the past 20 years, helping 35 million people keep their jobs and health insurance while they cared for a family health crisis or a new baby.

As critical as FMLA continues to be in protecting jobs and families, it falls short. Many of us provide care for additional family members but are unable to take job-protected leave to provide that essential care. The Family Care Act would allow FMLA-eligible employees in Colorado to use their leave to care for additional family members, ensuring their families are taken care of and their jobs are protected.

Family comes first. After 20 years, it’s time to expand FMLA to be more reflective of today’s hardworking families. Our state depends upon healthy, secure families to help fuel a strong, thriving economy.
